Karmachina returns to the LUMINALE festival in Frankfurt

After the highly successful 2018 edition with their Changing Times video-mapping project recounting the outstanding story of the Alte Oper theatre, Karmachina participates in the 2020 edition of the Biennial for Light Art and Urban Design with a new installation specifically designed to travel inside a railcar of an old city tram.

Instead of passengers, the 1956 vehicle operated by the historic Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) company, will transport the Karmachina multimedia installation across the neighbourhoods of Frankfurt. A “mobile installation” radiating out of the tram windows and visible from the streets, A Journey around Painters and Light celebrates the diverse journeys into light such as those undertaken by many nineteenth- and twentieth-century painters in their artistic, personal, and collective researches.

The installation stems from the 2020 LUMINALE concept – Digital Romantic – an invitation to explore interactions and conjunctions between these two seemingly antithetical categories.
