Monet: I Can See the Lights

An unprecedented immersive environment dedicated to the Master of Light for the new exhibition at the Kadokawa Culture Museum

Monet: I Can See the Lights – An Immersive Journey is the new audiovisual experience dedicated to Claude Monet at the Kadokawa Culture Museum (Japan) on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition. With the creative direction of Gianfranco Iannuzzi, the exhibition can be visited from 20 July 2024 to 19 January 2025.

The 360° digital art experience retraces the places Monet visited throughout his life, reliving scenes he saw, the family and friends he spent time with, and his life in Giverny, where he lived until the end, all accompanied by music and sound design by Alberto Modignani.

The show starts with “Impression, Sunrise”, exhibited at the 1874 group exhibition (Exhibition of the Impressionists), which Monet and his fellows held independently, seeking a venue for their work apart from Salon de Paris in the late 19th century. After the prologue, 13 chapters follow: La Guinguette, Paris, La Danse, La Gare, La Normandie, Bords de Seine, Giverny, Les Nympheas, L’Atelier, Le Japonisme, La Riviera de Monet, La Riviera de Renoir, Rouen Londres et Venise.
The experience ends as it starts: in the epilogue, the sun sets (“Soleil Couchant” and the music fades, suggesting the visitors proceed with the visit.

Paintings by Monet, the master of light, as well as by Degas, Renoir Pissarro, Manet and Hokusai, have been brought to life thanks to the most innovative digital techniques.

This immersive experience makes full use of more than 1000 square meters of vast space to envelop the viewer in video and music and connects all walls and floor surfaces through a combination of 33 high-brightness projectors.

In addition to the video exhibition, areas where you can learn about Monet and a photo spot inspired by the “Water Lily Pond”, have been set up. The learning area explains the evolution of the Impressionist Exhibition, the themes Monet painted, the series technique he employed, and the Japonisme that influenced him.
