SOROLLA A TRAVÉS DE LA LUZ

The first exhibition with an immersive experience dedicated to Joaquín Sorolla, the great Spanish painter of light

On the occasion of the centenary of Sorolla’s death, Light Art Exhibition organizes a major retrospective dedicated to the master of Spanish painting in the extraordinary location of the Royal Palace in Madrid; for the first time, the exhibition brings together the original works of the artist, experiences in virtual reality and an immersive environment signed by Karmachina with the supervision of the artistic direction of Gianfranco Iannuzzi.

From the 17th of February to the 30th of June 2023, the large video installation welcomes visitors to the exhibition and leads them to discover the life and works of Joaquín Sorolla through an unprecedented point of view.

The walls of the rooms are transformed into monumental LED screens that envelop the visitor at 360°: paintings of various formats, photographs and newspaper articles, personal drawings and writings, redesign the space in an emotional journey “through light”.

Structured in eight chapters, the narrative traces the artist’s life, focusing on some of his most popular and sought-after subjects, such as the sea and gardens. The more than two hundred materials selected thanks to the precious contribution of the curators of the Exhibition – Blanca Pons-Sorolla and Consuelo Luca de Tena – and collected thanks to the availability of prestigious public and private museums – primarily the Sorolla Museum in Madrid – are integrated into a single story thanks to an audiovisual treatment capable of combining art and digital animation.

A fundamental role is covered by the soundtrack created by sound designer Alberto Modignani. Music and ambient sounds give life to the images transporting us, from time to time, under the sun of a beach crowded with children or in the shade of the trees in the gardens of Granada.
