SOROLLA A TRAVÉS DE LA LUZ

After the success of the Royal Palace in Madrid, the immersive exhibition dedicated to the great Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla lands in Valencia

On the occasion of the centenary of Joaquín Sorolla’s death and after the great public success achieved at the Palacio Real in Madrid, the retrospective dedicated to the Spanish painter of light arrives at Fundación Bancaja in Valencia, from the 5th October 2023 to the 18th February 2024.

“Sorolla a través de la luz” – produced by Light Art Exhibition – collects 45 original works by the artist, an experience in virtual reality and an immersive environment signed by Karmachina with the art direction supervision of Gianfranco Iannuzzi.

The video installation leads visitors to discover the life and works of Joaquín Sorolla from a new point of view. Monumental LED screens envelop the visitor at 360°: paintings of various sizes, photographs and newspaper articles, drawings and personal writings redesign the space in an emotional journey “through light”.

Structured in eight chapters, the narrative retraces the artist’s life, focusing on some of his most popular subjects, such as the sea and the gardens. Over two hundred materials, selected thanks to the precious contribution of the curators of the Exhibition – Blanca Pons-Sorolla and Consuelo Luca de Tena – and collected thanks to the availability of prestigious public and private museums – primarily the Sorolla Museum in Madrid and the Hispanic Society of America – are integrated into a single story thanks to an audiovisual treatment that combines art and digital animation.

The soundtrack created by sound designer Alberto Modignani plays a fundamental role. Music and sound designs bring the images to life, transporting us, from time to time, under the sun of a beach crowded with children or in the shade of the trees of the gardens of Granada.

215 square metres, 32 million pixels and a spatialized audio system – made up of 8 speakers – give shape to an immersive and multisensory experience unique in its kind, which places the visitor at the center of the works of the great artist and accompanies him to the vision of the original paintings exhibited in the rooms.
